Wooden Loft Ladders
Wooden loft ladders a buyers guide
Wooden loft ladders are the ideal means of access to your loft or attic. Do you really need to let all of that space go to waste? By installing a good loft ladder, you will be able to go in and out of the loft with ease. Instead of dangerously standing on a chair or stool or pulling down the rickety old loft ladder that is already there.
Why buy a loft ladder?
Almost all houses have extra space in their eaves. If your roof is particularly steep then you will have a greater deal of space. If the roof is shallow, you may not have as much space, but why waste it? This currently wasted space is the ideal place to store items that you only use infrequently. If you happen to have lots of height from a steeply pitched roof then you could even add an extra room or two.
Now access to and from this new found space requires having either a loft ladder or building a staircase. The building of a staircase can be very expensive, messy and time consuming. On the other hand, a loft ladder is cheap, quick and easy to install
What is a wooden loft ladder?
A wooden loft ladder consists of a ladder or steps leading into your loft or attic, accessed via a loft hatch. Nearly all loft ladders are made to fold up – some are simply hinged to fold over each other, though more complicated concertina and telescopic versions exist. The folded ladder is then placed to rest on top of the hatch door.
It is also possible to get free standing wooden loft ladders. That may be hung or fixed on a wall adjacent to the loft hatch or opening.
The advantages of a wooden loft ladder
There are a few different materials used in the production of loft ladders. The most important been timber and aluminium. Wooden loft ladders give several key benefits over aluminium loft ladders.
The most obvious of these benefits been in its appearance. Wooden loft ladders are a lot more aesthetically pleasing than aluminium loft ladders. It is also possible to give the wood a stain or finish so that it may match the surrounding floors, furniture and mouldings. Some of the best loft ladders can be made to look like a staircase rather than a simple ladder.
Another benefit of wooden loft ladders is the reduced noise they make in use. Getting an aluminium loft ladder into position involves lots of creaking, clanging and rattling.
